Despite some early problems with negotiations, Tony Bellew confirms that things are looking good for his mega fight against Andre Ward. Arguably the pound for pound number one fighter in boxing, Ward seems to be the first in line to face the Liverpudlian.
“We’ve sat down with Andre Ward’s team and I’m a lot closer now to the Andre Ward fight than I have ever been before,” said Bellew during a Q & A session according to worldboxingnews.com.
The fight against Ward clearly interests the WBC World cruiserweight champion but he hasn’t forgotten about Joseph Parker either. ‘The Bomber’ wants to be world heavyweight champion.
“I like the Andre Ward fight. The numbers didn’t match up at first but Eddie [Hearn] worked out a way where it can work favourably for what I want. There’s the Joseph Parker fight. The lure of becoming heavyweight champion for me outweighs everything else,” told Bellew.
The confident ‘Bomber’ is certain that he wouldn’t have trouble against the current light heavyweight king.
“He’s pound-for-pound number one in the world, so they say. I believe I’m just too strong for him, too big for him. I’m a huge cruiserweight. I will walk through him like a train. He will not be able to hold me off,” he stated.
The much talked about rematch against David Haye is definitely off the table according to Hearn since both sides are very far from an agreement.
