British boxer Ben Whittaker has recently broken his silence. He did so through his Instagram stories. His message comes after his difficult fight against Liam Cameron. This match was part of the card that featured Artur Beterbiev facing Dmitry Bivol in the main event.
The encounter between Whittaker and Cameron ended unexpectedly. Both boxers fell onto the ropes and out of the ring. The fall turned out to be particularly unfortunate for Whittaker, who sustained injuries that left him seriously hurt. Because of this, he was forced to leave the ring in a wheelchair.
Afterwards, Whittaker was detained at King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia after a tense altercation with a fan. The incident occurred just hours after his unusual draw against Cameron at the Kingdom Arena. However, the situation was resolved, and Whittaker apologized and expressed his gratitude for the way he and the fan handled the inconvenience.
Ben Whittaker’s promoter, Ben Shalom, confirmed news regarding his situation.
In recent statements, Shalom asserted that Whittaker will not fight again this year. He was originally scheduled to return to the ring in December. However, his injuries will keep him out at least until early next year.
In his Instagram stories, Whittaker shared an update on his health status. He wrote: “Updated on injury. Just left my final session with my Physical therapist and here’s the latest.” This post was accompanied by a scene from the movie “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” that alludes to Whittaker’s situation.
To close his message, Whittaker left a hopeful note for his followers. He wrote: “Back soon. Don’t worry. Get back gonna be amazing.”
Although Ben Whittaker’s return date is still unknown, the boxer has promised that his comeback will be remarkable. However, we will have to wait for further updates to know who Whittaker’s opponent might be upon his return or if he will have a rematch against Liam Cameron.
