Ben Whittaker came through his most game opponent to date at the weekend and has now teased some rather surprise future plans after the win.
He got plenty of people talking this past weekend not only with another grand ring walk but also more showboating against Central Area champion Leon Willings in an eight-round non-title fight on the undercard of Fabio Wardley versus Frazer Clarke.
Whittaker danced from side to side directly in front of Willings, occasionally turning to address Willings’ trainer during the bout. However, he remained focused on his offensive strategy.
Sensing his opponent’s fatigue, he pressed forward with relentless body shots. Willings fired plenty back at Whittaker and even tried some showboating of his own across the full eight-round distance but ran out on the wrong side of a 78-73 points decision.
Whittaker has hinted that he might be switching promoters given his responses to a message posted on X by Sunny Edwards.
“If I was Ben Whittaker I’d be fuming at this commentary, as the home fighter I’ve never seen a panel so ready to slaughter the fighter they are investing in..
Who knows maybe he a free agent soon 🤷♂️”
A simple reply suggested that might be the case soon.
“🕰️”
Whittaker is a divisive figure given the showboating but is one that any promoter would love to have in their stable give his amateur pedigree and the talent he is already showing in the pro ranks.
