David Benavidez’s postponed WBC super-middleweight title eliminator against Venezuelan banger Jose Uzcategui has been revived for November 13 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix.
The two-time WBC 168lbs champion had been due to face the Mexican-based Uzcategui, a former IBF title holder, in his hometown of Phoenix on August 28 when Benavidez tested positive for Covid-19 forcing the event’s cancellation.
The winner of Benavidez-Uzcategui will potentially find themselves in pole position to meet WBC, WBA Super and WBO title holder Canelo Alvarez in 2022, assuming the Mexican sees off IBF king Caleb Plant on November 6.
Former world title challenger José Benavídez, David’s older brother, will return after a three-year hiatus against Argentine Francisco Emanuel Torres in a 10-rounder at 154lbs on the same card.
