An all-Mexican war is set to break out before the end of the year.
WBC 130lbs champion Miguel Berchelt’s long-awaited clash with compatriot and mandatory challenger Oscar Valdez looks almost settled for December 12.
Berchelt-Valdez will be an ESPN main event in the US and is likely to land in Las Vegas, according to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports.
Both men were in action over the summer with Berchelt halting countryman Eleazar Valenzuela in six in Mexico City in June and Valdez downing former world title challenger Jayson Velez in 10 in Las Vegas in July.
The no-nonsense Berchelt (38-1, 34 KOs) has demolished 16 of his last 17 opponents inside the distance, but will face an unbeaten, all-action foe in former WBO featherweight champion Valdez (28-0, 22 KOs).
Something’s got to give.
