The rearranged middleweight unification between Gennadiy Golovkin and Ryota Murata rearranged will take place on April 9.
The fight had been due to take place on December 29 but was postponed due to ongoing Covid-19 issues which restricted travel to Japan. Murata, the WBA champion will now have the chance to face the IBF holder in Saitama which will be shown live on DAZN.
“Ryota Murata is an outstanding champion,” said the 39-year-old Golovkin.
“I look forward to getting back in the ring and bringing the Big Drama Show to Japan.”
Murata described the opportunity to face ‘GGG’ as an “honour” as he looks to derail the Kazakh’s plans to face old adversary Canelo Alvarez in September.
“I am extremely pleased to be part of this historic middleweight title unification fight here in Japan,” said Murata.
“On April 9th, victory will be mine and Japan will have a unified world middleweight champion.”
