Billy Joe Saunders is hard at work, preparing for what he hopes will be the fourth title defence of his WBO title against the seasoned Martin Murray.
Speaking with iFL.TV, Saunders shared his recent disappointment regarding his last few fights.
Saunders was perceived to have taken on tough challenges in the form of Willie Monroe and David Lemieux. But the Hatfield fighter says a fighter of his ability should be handily dismissing those challenges.
“I should be beating the likes of Willie Monroe.”
“I should be dealing with David Lemieux because I know what I’m on a quest to do, I know what my mission is,” he told iFL.TV.
Saunders shared he feels he is part of something bigger than just himself. Saunders shared he feels he is on a mission and that mission is to become the undisputed world champion.
“If I can’t be dealing with them, then in my own head this mission’s a big fairy tale.”
“I know what I’m going to do. I want the winner of Golovkin and Canelo. Please God Golovkin wins – rightly so because he did last time – and I will hold all the titles.”
“Every single one of them by the end of this year!”
The 28-year-old also touched on the ongoing back and forth with Brooklyn’s Danny Jacobs. Jacobs and Saunders are considered the standout middleweights in the division outside of course the mammoth pair of Golovkin and Canelo.
Saunders is convinced he is the superior fighter to Jacobs. “Yeah he’s good but one million percent I’m better!”
That matchup seems unlikely for now. Since Jacobs signed with Frank Warren’s rival promoter, Eddie Hearn last year.
But Billy Joe shared that he will be open to the fight if both teams can find an agreement for a deal that makes financial sense.
“If they can make it financially work, viable for both of us, then I’m sure that me and him haven’t got a problem fighting each other.”
