With the way negotiations are going, Billy Joe Saunders will defend his WBO World middleweight title abroad against David Lemieux.
Saunders has never fought outside of the UK during his professional career. According to Lemieux’s manager Camille Estephan, talks between both camps are going well and they are close to an agreement. If all goes according to plan, Saunders and Lemieux will fight on December 16 in Laval, Canada.
“The negotiations are going well. We are more advanced [in the negotiations] than we thought we’d be at this moment. We hope to be able to finalize, in the next few days, an agreement for a world championship bout between Billy Joe Saunders and David Lemieux, on December 16 at Place Bell,” said Estephan according to boxingscene.com
The fight immediately got HBO’s interest and they want to broadcast it live with a bigger budget than usual.
“When Saunders [was ordered to fight David], it was pointed out to HBO that it was the type of opportunity where we needed an increased budget. This is where things have advanced really fast [in our negotiations],” told the manager.
