Billy Joe Saunders could make his return to the boxing ring later this year.
The former two-weight world champion has spent a year away from the sport after his loss to Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez. That night in Arlington, Texas saw the Brit surrender his WBO super-middleweight title after retiring on his stool the eighth round. It was later revealed that
Saunders suffered a broken eye socket.
Speaking to talkSPORT his former promoter Eddie Hearn revealed he had held discussions with Saunders team.
“I’d like to see Billy Joe back in the ring. We’re talking to him about possible fights in September/October.
“He has gotta get back in the gym and take the weight off because he’s notorious for enjoying himself in between camps. But he’s a very good fighter.”
And Hearn says a former opponent of Saunders who lost against him in 2013 could get a chance to
exact revenge.
“I’d like to see John Ryder fight Billy Joe Saunders. They had a great fight a few years ago, it was very close.
“John’s got great momentum after the Daniel Jacobs fight and hopefully we can get Billy Joe back in the ring.”
