Promoter Bob Arum has weighed in on the chances of Terence Crawford in a potential match up against undisputed light middleweight world champion Jermell Charlo.
Crawford has stated that, if Errol Spence decides not to activate a contractual rematch clause to take him on again, then a fight against Charlo is what he’d prefer to happen next.
And in a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Arum didn’t seem to think yet another step up in weight would be too much for ‘Bud.’
”I think that Terence is that much of a quality fighter that he probably beats everybody at 154.”
“In this era, he’s one of the most outstanding fighters.”
Charlo is due to fight Saul ‘Canleo Alvarez on September 20th for the Mexican’s undisputed super middleweight crown, and it is unclear at this stage if he would be willing or able to come back down to 154lbs for a grudge match against Crawford.
The pair have never been the best of friends, and Crawford actually got involved in a verbal back and forth with ‘Iron Man’ in the midst of his one sided beat down of Spence last month.
However, as enticing as an animosity filled clash between Crawford and Charlo would be for fight fans, indications are that Spence will trigger the rematch clause for another crack at the pound for pound number one.
The Texan said following his defeat at the T-Mobile Arena that he would prefer a rematch take place up at 154lbs – something Crawford said he’d have no problem with.
