Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum insists that Carl Frampton’s shot at WBO super-featherweight champion Jamel Herring can still take place in 2020 despite numerous delays and disruptions.
Belfast’s Frampton is bidding to become a three-weight world champion and seemed on the verge of a summer showdown with American Herring when the Coronavirus struck.
In the meantime, Herring has twice seen a scheduled defence against Jonathan Oquendo frustratingly postponed due to two positive Covid-19 tests (the latter appearing to be a false positive).
Yet promoter Arum has confirmed that Frampton-Herring should still go ahead in late 2020, if each fighter comes through scheduled bouts in August.
“We were greatly saddened when Jamel Herring tested positive for Covid-19,” said Arum via Twitter. “We expect not only him back in the ring in August, but also Carl Frampton.
“If they’re both victorious, we will attempt to match them against each other in the fourth quarter of 2020.”
