As the boxing world counts down the days to the Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford super fight, predictions are coming in thick and fast. The latest to have his say is 91-year-old promoter, Bob Arum.
Arum is a stalwart of the sport, and has put together many mega-events in his time working with the likes of Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield and Oscar De La Hoya.
One of the most sought-after fights of the modern era – at least in terms of accumulative talent – is the four-belt welterweight clash between Spence and Crawford.
Despite Crawford splitting from Arum’s company, Top Rank, in a bitter manner not so long ago, the veteran promoter is still backing him to win. He told FightHype.com that he believes it could end early.
“I always believed that Crawford was the better fighter.
That Crawford would win probably by knockout but maybe by points. I really believe that Terence has too much talent for Spence – who’s a very talented fighter – but I think Crawford is more talented.”
Crawford has ended 30 of his 39 contests inside the distance, whilst Spence boast 22 stoppages from 28.
The two 147lbers will face of in Las Vegas on July 29, throwing the first punches of a rivalry that may spawn into a trilogy of fights.
The loser will have the option of a rematch clause, and it’s thought that the pair might have a third fight up at 154lb when their welterweight business is done.
Both men are wildly confident of leaving the ring as the first undisputed four-belt champion of the division, and most fans can see a path to victory for both. There lies the intrigue, and what makes this likely the highlight of boxing’s calendar year.
