Bob Arum has shut down the idea of a trilogy clash between Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora.
The Top Rank head honcho looks after the US affairs of WBC champion Fury and has hit back at the potential of a third fight between his man and his old pal ‘Del Boy’.
Arum had previously stated that ‘The Gypsy King’ would remain in his self-imposed sabbatical, which he began after his sixth-round stoppage win over number one-ranked contender to the world title, Dillian Whyte, at Wembley Stadium, until the conclusion of the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua.
Ukraine’s Usyk, a former undisputed cruiserweight champion, takes on Fury’s British rival ‘AJ’ in a rematch for the WBA Super, IBF, IBO and WBO world heavyweight titles on August 20 at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia after dethroning him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London last September.
Sky Sports Box Office will screen the rematch between Usyk and Joshua in the UK and Ireland after paying a staggering £23million for the rights.
And Arum believes the proposed fight between Fury and Chisora, who was last in action just last month when he beat Kubrat Pulev in a rematch of their 2016 clash, is all smoke and mirrors ahead of a potential undisputed clash.
Bob Arum spoke to Fight Freaks Unite about the potential trilogy:
“The truth is that he gets up in the morning, and he figures how he can best stir up s***.
“He’s having fun.”
Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) has already beaten Chisora twice, outpointing him in 2011 and then stopping him in 2014, but has long insisted he would face his fellow countryman again.
‘Del Boy’ took to social media to respond after being told by Fury to “get his team to contact him” and “sign the f***ing contract”.
Arum continued:
“Everybody is waiting for the fight to happen a week from Saturday and then we’ll explore whether it’s feasible to do a fight for the complete unification.
“He’s having fun, for Christ’s sake! Don’t take it seriously!”
