The founders of Boxing Social and all the staff are sending our sincerest condolences to Scott Westgarth’s family and friends.
Westgarth took part in a hard fought ten round bout against Dec Spelman at a Boxing Social broadcast event in Doncaster on Saturday 24th of February. After winning the fight by judges decision, Westgarth was taken to the hospital for further medical attention after collapsing in the locker room.
Co-Founder Neil Kettleborough is deeply saddened by the tragic events and promises to help Westgarth’s Go Fund Me-charity page.
“Boxing Social will be promoting Scott’s Go Fund Me-page and help spread awareness through the media outlets with this press release.
“Boxing Social has been approached by a variety of broadcast and news outlets to use Boxing Social’s video content on Scott. We’ve agreed on this that all outlets can use the footage with a stipulation of posting and promoting Scott’s Go Fund Me-page.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his immediate family and friends,” said Kettleborough.
“I’m quite numb at the minute. When I promote professional boxing regularly, these kinds of events are always sanctioned by the British Boxing Board of Control. The last thing on your mind is for a young fighter to lose his life. When you see that smile on their face after win… it’s just a terrible tragedy. Absolutely heartbroken. I can’t even think of what his family is going through. Just giving the best wishes from Stefy Bull Promotions. I’ll make sure this champion’s name gets carried on,” said Stefy Bull, the promoter of the event.
Dec Spelman’s cornerman Carl Greaves also shared his thoughts.
“You don’t expect things like these to happen, we all know the dangers of the sport. When it does happen, it shows how tough the sport is. It’s heartbreaking. The lad came to fight and fought the fight of his life. He was the underdog and boxed out of his skin. It’s just a travesty. He took heavy blows in the last round but no one expected this to happen. Thoughts are with all his family and everybody at his gym, manager and trainer,” said Greaves.
At this time, we at Boxing Social would like to encourage everyone to show their support to Scott’s family and donate to his Go Fund Me-page.
