As the United Kingdom enters a period of national mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, events across the sporting sector are being postponed in line with national guidance.
Given the exceptional nature of events, it’s understood that new guidelines for the period following the Queen’s death were prepared, however left it up to individual sporting bodies to make the final decision. Friday’s events were largely postponed, and the Premier League announced this afternoon that the weekend’s fixtures were to be rescheduled as a mark of respect.
It has now been announced that the historic all-female fight card that was set for this Saturday at The O2 in London will not go ahead as planned.
The BOXXER promoted event in partnership with Sky Sports Boxing was to see Claressa Shields face Savannah Marshall for the undisputed middleweight championship, with Mikaela Mayer and Alycia Baumgardner featuring in a super-featherweight title unification.
BOXXER released the following statement:
“As a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the British Boxing Board of Control has made the decision to postpone Saturday’s event, BOXXER: Legacy – Shields vs Marshall.
Our sincere thoughts are with His Majesty King Charles III and the Royal Family during this profoundly sombre time.
We are working with all parties to provisionally reschedule for Saturday, 15th October, at The O2 in London.”

More news around the rescheduling of the fight and any fallout from its postponement is expected to follow, however the new potential date of October 15 offers some respite for fans.
BOXXER’s decision followed an official statement from Robert W. Smith, the General Secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control, postponing all boxing tournaments for the weekend beginning Friday 9th September.
