Campbell Hatton suffered the first defeat of his professional career last weekend, and now the son of boxing legend Ricky Hatton has made a major career decision in the wake of the loss.
Hatton was competing in his first title contest, taking on James Flint for the Central Area super-lightweight title at the Sheffield Arena.
Many fans were impressed with the grit that Campbell displayed in the contest, but in the end it was Flint who picked up a fairly comfortable win, with the judges handing him a unanimous decision victory.
Just seven days on from the loss, the 23-year-old has now made a big choice as he looks to continue with his career, parting with his long-time trainer and uncle Matthew Hatton.
Matthew has guided Campbell throughout the amateur ranks and in his 15 professional contests to date, but ‘The Hurricane’ felt it was a decision that had to be made when discussing the news on social media.
“Spent most days over the last 7 years alongside this man & loved every second. Uncle, trainer & best mate rolled into one. Time for a change for the next part of the journey but will always be grateful for everything he’s done for me. It’s been a belter 🥊 x @MagicMattHatton”
“What a journey the last 7 years I’ve enjoyed it immensely. Always made him a priority & always will. The right time to move on @campbellhatton. The future is yours. Find a way Make it happen.”
News on who Hatton will appoint as his next trainer is expected to be announced in the next few weeks.
