The proposed fight between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Chris Eubank Jr has been strongly dismissed today by the Mexican’s coach, Eddy Reynoso.
This news comes after Boxxers’ Ben Shalom announced that conversations had restarted for the fight.
Four-weight world champion and the first ever man to become undisputed super middleweight world champion, Canelo, is arguably the biggest name in the sport.
The WBC, WBA, and WBO world super middleweight champion was stripped in July of his IBF belt after deciding to fight Edgar Belanga.
Canelo defeated Belanga emphatically on points, the judges scored the fight 118-109 (X2) and 117-110.
Chris Eubank Jr is coming off a dominant win over Kamil Szeremeta, in which he dropped his opponent four times on the way to a seventh-round TKO victory.
After the fight, his arch-rival Conor Benn stormed into the ring and the pair faced off – which was comically overseen by Neymar.
By all accounts, this fight is set to take place in February next year.
However, after the news of a potential Canelo-Eubank fight next, speaking to Dan Rafael, Reynoso has emphatically shut this claim down.
“It’s totally false,” Reynoso said.
“Eubank had his chance to fight Canelo in September and the only thing he did was complicate the negotiations.”
”We will not touch base with him again for a future fight!”
Therefore, this suggests that any fight between Canelo and Eubank Jr will not be taking place next.
Canelo may want to assess his options as he most likely will want to avenge his defeat to Dmitry Bivol, however, it looks like Bivol will fight Artur Beterbiev again after their extraordinary bout a few weeks ago.
Furthermore, it now looks likely that Chris Eubank Jr will finally be facing Conor Benn.
Conor Benn has since reacted to the news by posting on his Twitter/ X account.
”Just face it Junior the welterweight is your biggest pay day and the only fight for you and I promise you im going to leave you flat on the canvas,” Benn wrote.
That’s why 🤣🤣🤣🤣@ChrisEubankJr 🤡
