Speculation around Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s next fight has been intensifying in recent weeks and now the latest belief is that he could well be signed to fight Jaime Munguia on his beloved Cinco de Mayo date.
Canelo has not fought since September when he brushed aside the challenge of Jermell Charlo and won a lopsided 12-round points decision.
Since then it has been suggested he might fight the other Charlo twin Jermall, if not pound-for-found star Terence Crawford, although the weight difference between those two great fighters is thought to be too much.
Now, EPSN KNOCKOUT believes that the four-time world champion will be putting his status as undisputed super middleweight king on the line against fellow Mexican Jaime Munguía on May 4 in Las Vegas.
Last time out, Munguía secured a solid knockout win over John Ryder, who Alvarez himself also faced last year but struggled to stop and instead won over 12 rounds on points.
After the non-agreement between Álvarez and PBC, a window is now open for him to once again work with Matchroom Boxing on this next fight.
According to ESPN, it is thought that the fight between Canelo and Munguia could well be signed and sealed in the next few days, and if not, another man in unbeaten Edgar Berlanga also announced he is ready and waiting to face the great Mexican.
