Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is in camp for his next fight but has revealed the staggering amount of money it would take for him to face David Benavidez.
There has been plenty of pressure on the multi-weight champion to face Benavidez over the last year, but so far he has resisted. Benavidez is a former super middleweight champion who has looked impressive in recent times.
He has secured big wins over the likes of Caleb Plant and Demetrius Andrade, but after failing to land a shot at Canelo, it is expected his next fight will be up at light heavyweight.
In the meantime, Canelo is fighting contender Jaime Munguia in his traditional Cinco De Mayo fight slot. Both men recently fought John Ryder, with Munguia doing a rather better job and stopping the Brit, while Canelo only managed a points win over 12 rounds.
He recently spoke to the media and a video captured by ESNews caught him talking about what it would take for him to get in the ring with Benavidez.
“If some promoter, not him because he has nothing to offer me, but if some promoter offers $150m/$200m then I will fight tomorrow. That’s the only reason I’d fight with him.”
However he has rarely shied away from a big fight and in the past has bowed to clamour to face the likes of Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders and Gennady Golovkin so could still yet face Benavidez later in the year.
