One of the sport’s biggest superstars in Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has his say on one of its biggest potential fights – Oleksandr Usyk against Tyson Fury.
The Mexican fighter is currently in training camp for his title fight with Gennady Golovkin. It’s the third time the pair will meet between the ropes in a rivalry that will go down in history.
FightHype.com caught up with the super middleweight champion in the gym, and asked him the hottest question in boxing right now – who comes out on top, the Ukrainian or the Brit?
“It’s gonna be a good fight but I think Fury is going to win because he has everything. He has boxing skills, he has the weight, so it’s gonna be different [for Usyk].”
The Mexican champ was then asked about some rumours that he may be open to meeting Usyk in the ring at cruiserweight. Usyk at the time said he was open to it, but the talks turned out to be a bit more promotional that practical.
For what it’s worth, Alvarez would still consider it.
“It’s difficult, but I don’t care. I like that kind of challenge – it’s gonna be difficult I know, but I love boxing, I love being in that kind of situation.”
He certainly does. He’s coming off a loss to Dmitry Bivol in a fight that saw him jump up to light heavyweight. Ultimately, the Russian came out on top with a career-defining performance, but it’s hard to knock Canelo’s determination in the challenge.
While talks continue for Usyk to face Fury, Canelo has a fight of his own. He faces Golovkin in Las Vegas on September 17. Canelo holds one victory over ‘Triple G’. That came in their second fight following the first being scored a draw. UK fans can tune in to the trilogy on DAZN PPV.
