Canelo Alvarez’s proposed fight on September 12 has officially been postponed.
The Mexican superstar is remaining in training as his team works on a fresh date with broadcasters DAZN, according to Golden Boy Promotions President Roberto Diaz.
Britons Callum Smith and John Ryder had been in the running as prospective opponents, but the lack of a live gate was always likely to prove problematic for Canelo’s return after the havoc caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Canelo (53-1-2, 36 KOs) was last in action in November when he halted Sergey Kovalev in the 11th round to win the WBO 175lbs title and become a four-weight champion.
