Following the official confirmation of his fight with Jermell Charlo on September 30th, speculation has been rife as to who the other two opponents Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will take on as part of this three fight deal with PBC.
Undisputed light middleweight champion Charlo had been brought in at the last hour to take on the Mexican, after his twin brother Jermell reportedly withdrew from negotiations late on.
And Canelo’s trainer and manager Eddie Reynoso revealed to Little Giant Boxing that the team intend on revisiting a fight with WBC middleweight champion Jermall after they have handled business with his brother.
“A fight between Mexicans vs. African Americans always delivers. The Charlos [Jermell & Jermall] are great fighters. More than anything, they’re managed and trained by one of the best trainers in boxing, a very disciplined Derrick James.
First, we’re going to fight Jermell Charlo; then we’re going to go after Jermall.”
Jermall has not boxed for over three years, however, and it remains unclear when he will be fit to compete again due to publicised struggles with his mental health.
His younger brother Jermell will move up two weight classes to challenge for Alvarez’ undisputed super middleweight world championship at the T-Mobile Arena next month, in what will be the first time two reigning undisputed champions have locked horns in the four belt era.
Though ‘Canelo’ is a clear betting favourite, there is a view that he is on the slide and some believe Charlo could be getting the Guadalajara star at the perfect time to spring the upset.
