Carl Frampton will not rush into a decision over his future following his defeat by Josh Warrington.
The Belfast fighter lost a unanimous decision at the hands of the Leeds Warrior last weekend, exclusively live on BT Sport Box Office.
Frampton, 31, was on the wrong end of 116-113, 116-112 and 116-112 scorecards at Manchester Arena.
And the former two-weight king, who was WBA ‘regular’ and IBF champion down at super-bantamweight before beating Leo Santa Cruz in their first fight at 126 pounds, has said that he will make a decision regarding his future in the sport after the festive period.
“I don’t even want to think about boxing for a while,” he said in the aftermath of his second career defeat. “I just want to go home and see my kids and we’ll see [what the future holds].
“The better man won and that is it. He outfought me and out-boxed me and I don’t know what I’m going to do.”
The fight was a certain candidate for fight of the year on British shores and, with the win, Warrington – in the books of many – eclipses the achievements of WBA Super and WBC Diamond world super-middleweight champion Callum Smith, who also holds the Ring Magazine bauble, to become the British fighter of the year.
“The way the first two rounds went set the pace for the fight and changed how everything was happening,” Frampton, who sustained a cut under his left eye in the opening rounds, added.
“I feel like I did well enough to steal a few rounds and come back into it but he won the fight fair and square.
“I will make a conscious decision soon. Let me get Christmas out of the road and the New Year and then I will make a conscious decision as to what I am going to do.”
