Carl Frampton’s relationship with former boxing champion turned manager Barry McGuigan has long since soured and now he has fired back at comments over him ‘not achieving anything without him.’
Frampton spent a portion of his career training with McGuigan’s son Shane and fighting under the auspices of Cyclone Promotions.
It was successful for a while and saw Frampton win a world title but he left left and went to join rival setup MTK Global. A court case ensued though few details have ever been made public. Frampton has now been retired for a few years following a final fight and loss against Jamel Herring.
Since then he has worked as a pundit and has now been speaking to Boxing Social about recent jibes from McGuigan which claimed ‘he could not have achieved anything without me or my family.’
Frampton was sanguine in his response.
“I don’t even want to talk about it anymore. They keep bringing it up but I don’t think it’s ever going to go well. It’s egotistical. You’d have to ask them [why they keep bringing it up] but they’re never going to win so I suggest they should stop talking about it. I
“t’s very disrespectful to the other people that have trained me in my career. You’ve got to remember Barry approached me to turn pro, I was a number one fighter in the four nations at featherweight, so it wasn’t as if they got some moron and turned him into a world champion.
“Shane is a great trainer, and Barry was good as a promoter and manager to get me the attention but to say I couldn’t have done it without them is hugely egotistical.”
