It seems as though Carl Froch was not too impressed with Joe Joyce’s comeback fight and has now said ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.’
Joyce was returning for the first time since bruising back-to-back losses last year to Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang who knocked him out in both fights, and even quicker and more brutally the second time.
It came as a shock to many given that Joyce has barely been hurt before let alone stopped in fights against the likes of Joseph Parker and Daniel Dubois.
Speaking on his own Froch on Fighting YouTube channel, ‘The Cobra’ held nothing back in his assessment of Joyce’s return after he beat Kash Ali by tenth round stoppage last weekend.
“I think he struggled, He won, he was busy like he usually is, but he took too many punches on the chin. And we saw it, when he stepped up to the world level, Zhilei Zhang done him twice and that second with was a bad knockout out.
“That’s a worrying knockout out. I wanted to see him come back and move his head a little bit more, get his hand in front of his face, maybe get both his gloves up, and take his head off the line, but you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”
Froch then gave his final crushing assessment of Joyce, who has been involved in a war of words with Martin Bakole recently.
“Joe Joyce showed me that he probably should think about hanging his gloves up.”
