Carl Froch has laid in to Anthony Joshua in a recent interview, labelling the former unified world champion as “stupid” for his antics after his second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk last August.
Froch pulled no punches in his assessment of Joshua’s behaviour, comparing him to a spoiled child for failing to give Usyk his credit on the night.
Speaking to BBC Five Live, Froch said:
“It was ridiculous. The whole thing was ridiculous. I thought he was stupid. I thought it was totally uncalled for and it was ‘the Anthony Joshua show.’
It’s like a kid that’s spat his dummy out. He’s got beat, fair and square. Be magnanimous, he’s got a guy [Usyk] who’s from Ukraine, give him his moment.
It wasn’t close, it wasn’t a split decision even though it was on the cards – he got conclusively outboxed.”
‘AJ’ received criticism for his behaviour after losing out to Uysk in Jeddah, with many observers describing him as having had a meltdown.
Although there was initial talk of a December comeback, Joshua has not fought since that night and is yet again on the hunt for a new trainer having split with Robert Garcia.
Garcia was brought in for the Usyk rematch after Joshua parted ways with long time coach Rob McCracken – who also trained Froch, perhaps explaining ‘The Cobra’s animosity towards AJ.
Joshua is expected to return to action in spring of this year, with promoter Eddie Hearn revealing plans are in place for a fight against a ‘top 15’ opponent before a rematch with old foe Dillian Whyte.
The likes of Otto Wallin, Zhilei Zhang and Jermaine Franklin are all believed to be in the running.
