Carl Froch Criticises Tommy Fury For Rumoured Fight: “Don’t Do It, It’s Bad For Boxing”

Tommy Fury is rumoured to be facing four-weight world champion Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition bout next.

The money-spinning fight night would follow wins over Jake Paul and KSI on the crossover scene.

Speaking on Froch on Fighting, ‘The Cobra’ struggled with the logic of the match-up given Fury’s past comments that he wants to pursue more traditional boxing.

“Tommy Fury is the guy that fought Jake Paul and KSI … He struggled [but] he won … Tommy Fury’s limited and found his level with YouTubers who can’t fight, and he’s said he’s gonna try and be a professional boxer, so he’s gonna fight 54-year-old Roy Jones Jr?”

Froch then criticised the fight, saying it was ‘bad for boxing’ and of ‘no interest.’

“Don’t even hit Roy Jones Jr. He’s a legend of the game. He obviously wants the attention or wants a bit of extra money, but for Tommy to fight Roy Jones Jr, it’s just wrong. I don’t want to see it. I think it’s a load of crap. It’s got no interest. It proves nothing.

And if it’s gonna go down the road of becoming a professional boxer, he needs to start from the bottom and work his way up. Try and win a British title in the light-heavyweight division and face real professional fighters … If he fights anybody at even British level right now he’s getting beat.”

“The Roy Jones Jr fight – leave it alone mate. It’s a load of s**t, shouldn’t be happening. It’s f***ing bad for boxing. Don’t do it.”

Unfortunately for Froch, the most recent update from Jones was that the boxing businessmen in Saudi Arabia are interested in progressing the talks.
