The announcement that Anthony Joshua is to fight Francis Ngannou has prompted Carl Froch to announce that it’s a ‘cash grab’ from Eddie Hearn.
This weekend it was revealed that former UFC champion Ngannou is to have his second-ever professional boxing match on March 8 against British two-time heavyweight champion Joshua.
It comes off the back of him impressing fans and pundits in his 10-round debut against Tyson Fury back in October in which he managed to put the current WBC Champion down in round three.
Speaking on his own Froch on Fighting podcast, ‘The Cobra’ has now pointed out that Hearn once called Ngannou versus Fury ‘ a complete mismatch’ and a ‘cash grab.’
“So Eddie Hearn has done a complete 180 on his original comments saying it’s a cash grab. Well, this is a cash grab, let’s be honest. It’s not a world title fight. There’s a mixed response – some people on social media want to see the fight, it’s decent enough but it’s not proper heavyweight boxing.”
He goes on to say that Joshua has already fought a former Fury foe in Otto Wallin and is now repeating that move once more, but has also warned ‘he might struggle.’
“This fight is only acceptable because Ngannou did so well against Fury, but let’s be honest this is a cash grab and I don’t think it’s good for heavyweight boxing.”
Joshua-Ngannou is the latest in Riyadh Season’s boxing schedule, which has seen Fury-Ngannou, the Day of Reckoning card and will host Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk on February 17.
