Four-time super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch has continued his back-and-forth with Queensberry Promoter Frank Warren, following recent comments made regarding the poor atmosphere in the new-found home of boxing – Saudi Arabia.
Two months ago, Froch stated he has seen ‘no energy or atmosphere’ when attending fights in the Middle East, which has fast become one of Warren and Eddie Hearn’s favoured locations, due to the ease of making bouts that were previously perceived to be difficult.
In response, Frank Warren labelled Froch as ‘jealous’ and as a ‘miserable b*****d’, words to which the British boxing legend replied to on his YouTube channel.
“Frank Warren is having a go at ‘The Cobra’ again, calling me a miserable b*****d! ‘Bricktop’! What is going on? I’ve never been miserable, I am always smiling, I’m always laughing, I’m happy, I am smashing life. Since retiring 10 years ago, all I have done is enjoy myself, kept in my lane and just got down to business, keeping under the radar as much as I could.
“I’ve just mentioned Saudi Arabia and the atmosphere, or the lack of it. There is a bit of a lack in the atmosphere in Saudi Arabia, everyone that I talk to agrees with what I am saying. It’s not a criticism, it is an observation that Saudi Arabia boxing events lack atmosphere.
“Every time that the action is going off, people are just sitting there – they are not getting animated, they are not emotionally involved and they don’t fully understand the sport. There is no travelling Brits really, there’s a handful of people go out there, so we are struggling for the atmosphere.”
Saudi Arabia will play host to the historic undisputed heavyweight title contest between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday May 18th, where the atmosphere will likely cause intrigue for Froch once again.
