Although he’s often more known for his scathing put downs, Carl Froch has recently piled some high praise in the direction of a British former fighter.
One of the best super middleweight’s of his generation, Froch can now be found breaking down fights as a pundit, or offering his two cents on the latest goings on in the boxing world on his recently established YouTube channel.
And it was on that channel, Froch on Fighting, where ‘The Cobra’ expressed his love for Naseem Hamed, who he has previously described as one of his favourite fighter of all time.
“I just love Prince Naseem Hamed’s attitude and self belief. He was just absolutely full of self belief.
For a featherweight, he was a massive puncher. He’d dance to the ring, somersault over the top rope and put on a performing masterclass.
I love Naseem Hamed – the ultimate showman.”
A protege of the late Brendan Ingle, Hamed was known for his unconventional boxing antics and spectacular ring entrances which included entering the ring on a flying carpet, as well as re-enacting the video of Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
However, Hamed was no gimmick. He was a southpaw with devastating punch power, and held multiple word titles at featherweight during the mid to late 1990s, and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2015.
Froch himself was inducted into the IBHOF last year, and is regarded as a British boxing legend in his own right.
His resume at 168lbs is littered with elite fighters, including the likes of Andre Ward, Jermaine Taylor, George Groves and Mikkel Kessler.
