Recent Hall of Fame inductee, Carl Froch, has given Conor Benn advice following the doping scandal that has enveloped his budding career.
Last October, the 26-year-old saw a fight with Chris Eubank Jr pulled at the final minute due to news breaking that he had tested positive for a banned substance months prior. The inactivity was the least of Benn’s problems as he later revealed it was the second failed test of 2022.
In the months following, the undefeated welterweight protested his innocence but did little to solve the problem of regaining a British boxing license.
It’s the first thing Froch tells him to do, before then apologising to the public. The former super middleweight champion gave his advice to Benn on Up Front with Simon Jordan.
“Sit in front of the British Boxing Board of Control. Have a conversation with them. Apologise publicly. And get on with your career as fast as possible.”
That plan is already somewhat in motion. Benn has recently cooperated with the UK Anti-Doping Agency by providing the evidence he believes will clear his name.
Whilst the Board are not directly involved in the hearing process, UKAD is its drugs testing partner and the final decision will impact whether or not Benn can fight in his home country.
The fighter’s team recently told Boxing Social that a verdict was imminent. Despite nothing concrete being announced, it hasn’t stopped them reigniting the fight talks with Eubank Jr behind the scenes.
Promoter Eddie Hearn believes this will go on on September 23, location dependant on the UKAD verdict with Abu Dhabi lined up as an alternative.
