As a recent inductee into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, Carl Froch rightly has a high opinion of himself, and is known for always fancying his chances in various fantasy match ups.
However, even the ever confident Froch admitted there is one fighter who would have ‘hammered’ him if the two had fought in their respective primes.
On a recent interview on Talksport, ‘The Cobra’ conceded that a prime version of four weight world champion Roy Jones Jr would have been a bridge too far.
“I would have got absolutely hammered, I’d have got whooped. I’ve got to be honest.
If I had managed to go twelve rounds with Roy Jones Jr, can you imagine the state of my face? I can’t say that we wouldn’t have hit me, because I get hit with shots. He’d have been too quick with that jab and he’d have outworked me.
He’d have hammered me. He’d have beaten me up.”
Thankfully for Froch, the two super middleweight champions best years were separated by over a decade, with Jones at his peak in the mid to late 1990s.
Jones now plies his trade as a trainer – although remarkably had a professional contest against former UFC star Anthony Pettis earlier this year at the age of 54.
He had been working with Chris Eubank Jr since 2021 , although the pair have parted ways ahead of Eubank’s rematch with Liam Smith on September 2nd in Manchester due to schedule clashes, though there is reportedly no animosity between the two.
