Former super-middleweight champion, Carl Froch has revealed details of sparring sessions between Anthony Joshua and Joe Joyce.
Last year, footage of a sparring session between Joshua and Joyce was leaked, which appeared to show AJ getting the better of the now 37-year-old title contender. However, ‘The Juggernaut’ claimed that the video only showed the ‘best bits’ of the London 2012 gold medallist and that they were drilling specific punches.
Froch appeared to back up those claims and revealed that, from what he had witnessed, Joshua found Joyce to be a difficult sparring partner.
In a resurfaced video from his YouTube channel, Froch talked about Joshua ‘not enjoying’ Joyce’s relentless pressure.
“I’ve seen him [Joyce] sparring for a couple of years with Anthony Joshua, because I was on the England squad when Joe Joyce was there. AJ didn’t enjoy sparring him, he didn’t enjoy sparring Joe Joyce because he just keeps coming forward, he keeps working. He just works away and plods away and he looks a little bit awkward, looks slow, but he gets the job done.”
Joshua and Joyce could be on a collision course to face each other soon, with the pair hoping to stake their respective claims to the heavyweight throne over the next twelve months and both men seem willing to settle the score in the ring.
Joshua returns to the ring on April 1 against Jermaine Franklin, whilst Joyce is back in action on April 15 against Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang. If both come through without any injuries it could set up a summer all-British clash.
