Former Super-Middleweight world champion, Carl Froch, has compared two of boxing’s most high-profile scheduled clashes, with the 46-year-old clearly having more interest in one of the upcoming fights.
Alongside Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Dillian Whyte, the current heavyweight champions, Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury are set to enter the ring over the next few months, but not against each other after talks for an undisputed clash fell apart.
Usyk will now take on his WBA mandatory challenger, Daniel Dubois, in Poland, in a second defence of his heavyweight titles. Meanwhile, Fury will meet former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, in a controversial crossover bout, which has been met with plenty of criticism from the boxing world but will undoubtedly be a huge commercial success.
In an interview with talkSPORT, Froch made it clear which fight he’s looking forward to most.
“I can’t see him [Usyk] walking onto, what would probably have to be, a sucker punch from Dubois and getting beat. But, it’s heavyweight boxing, it’s a two-horse race, anything can happen.
This fight is definitely more exciting than watching Fury and Ngannou, who is making his debut.”
Whilst Usyk’s three heavyweight titles will be on the line against the Brit, it looks unlikely that Fury’s WBC crown will be up for grabs in his spectacle against the Cameroonian.
Ngannou has confirmed that the fight will go onto the professional record of both men and has rubbished any rumours of a ‘no knockdown’ rule. Should the MMA star cause a huge upset it’s believed a rematch clause is in place for the two to meet again.
