Three-time super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch has offered his prediction as to how a fantasy heavyweight battle between a prime Tyson Fury and a prime Mike Tyson would play out.
Fury was named after the heavyweight legend, and astonishingly lived up to that name, claiming the unified heavyweight world title with a shock win over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.
After a three-year lay-off, ‘The Gypsy King’ returned to the ring, again upsetting the odds by drawing with Deontay Wilder, who he would knock out on two occasions, after appointing SugarHill Steward as his new trainer and adopting the ‘Kronk’ style.
However, despite the tremendous success of the undefeated Brit, Froch told Lucky Block Casino that a prime Mike Tyson would be too much for almost any man, Tyson Fury included.
“A peak Tyson Fury was good behind the jab, fast on his feet and light.
“I think that Tyson Fury would be able to keep him out of the way for an amount of time, but if we are talking about a peak Mike Tyson, that was world champion at 20-years-old, he beats almost anybody. The way he was, he got in there and he was a dangerous man.
“He didn’t stop throwing punches, he used to roll his way into range, if they tried to grab him he would push them off and throw big hooks and big uppercuts, and if they landed on the chin, they would render them unconscious.
“I think that the answer to that question, for me, would be that Mike Tyson beats Tyson Fury.”
Now, Fury will have the opportunity to emulate the achievements of his namesake and become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 2000, as he takes on Oleksandr Usyk on May 18th in a historic showdown, where a cemented legacy awaits the victor.
