There has been plenty of talk of Wayne Rooney possibly stepping into the ring for a fight and now Carl Froch has offered to train the former England striker should that happen.
Earlier in the year it emerged that Rooney, a long time boxing fan, was not against the idea of fighting on one of the upcoming Misfits events, which has put on plenty of contests between influencer boxers and celebrities such as KSI and Logan Paul.
Eddie Hearn then came out and said him against Jake Paul would be a huge event that he could see Rooney winning, and now Froch has offered his services as a coach.
The former super-middleweight champion said he’d be up for it for the fun it would be.
“If It was for celebrity match or for charity I might look it, it might be a bit of laugh, me in the corner and I’ve got Wayne Rooney boxing, the link up sounds pretty good; four time world champion and hall of famer in the corner, but to train him properly for a fight would not be interested.”
He then assessed the former England, Everton, and Manchester United legend’s chances.
“I think Wayne Rooney could have a fight, I think he used to do a bit of boxing. I wonder if Roy Keane could have a fight? I’d like Wayne and Roy, imagine the build up would be great, two Man Utd legends at Old Trafford, it would be massive.”
It would indeed be huge, and right now Rooney is neither playing nor managing so it might be the perfect time to happen.
