So impressive was Terence Crawford in his nine round dissection of Errol Spence Jr to claim the undisputed welterweight world championship in July, that conversations have sprung up about Crawford moving up as high as super middleweight in search of bigger and better challenges.
As such, one of the top contenders at 168lbs has weighed in on the talk of Crawford joining the division – and warned him to stay well away.
Two weight world champion Demtrius Andrade told FightHype that Crawford would get “bullied” by most fighters in the division, however actually encouraged him to fight the divisions undisputed king Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
“That’s my boy – he’s going to get f***ed up though. Don’t come up here and get f***ed up, its a big difference.”
“He’s got the skill, but if he’s going up to 168 there are skilled fighters up there that are seeing what he’s doing. Plus, we would be able to bully him.”
“Fight Canelo bro, get your pay day and dare to be great, you know what I’m saying? Canelo’s not a natural 168 type guy either, he started off at 147 and he’s not a tall guy.”
As intriguing as the though of Crawford moving up to super middle to fight ‘Canelo’, Andrade or anyone else is, it will all have to be put on the back burner for the foreseeable future, after news broke over the past week that Errol Spence Jr has activated a contractual rematch clause and will get another crack at ‘Bud.’
Spence vs Crawford 2 could actually see ‘Bud’ make a smaller jump in weight, with the expectation that a second fight between the pair will take place at light middleweight.
However, this has not been confirmed as of yet.
