Conor Benn’s name has become a tainted one after he failed a drugs test over two years ago, yet that hasn’t stopped him demanding fights against the biggest names in the sport in the past. Now, the polarising welterweight contender has received some long-awaited news and called out Ryan Garcia for a scrap during his celebrations.
‘The Destroyer’ tested positive for a banned substance named Clomifene during the build-up to his cross-generational trilogy showdown against Chris Eubank Jr. – hoping to finish the rivalry that their fathers began.
However, as of yet, that fight is yet to take place, as the result of Benn’s drug test saw the bout cancelled at the last minute.
After numerous legal disputes, today it has been announced that the National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP) have cleared Benn of any wrongdoing and as a result, the British 147lber is looking towards a scrap with some of boxing’s most high-profile figures.
On an Instagram live, shortly after the announcement from NADP, Benn sent out a message to Ryan Garcia, who is banned from fighting professionally until April for failing a drugs test of his own.
“Queen Ryan, where are you at? You need to lay off of the sauce.
“I didn’t take no plea deal. I didn’t pay no fine. Completely innocent, completely cleared.
“If you want it you can get it. You see all you Yanks, you lot can all get it, if you want it you can get it.
“No problem, I’ll come over there and give you all a good beating.”
Regardless of his ban, Garcia is set to return to the ring in January for an exhibition bout in Dubai. Although, ‘King Ryan’ has accepted a challenge from Benn in the past, suggesting that the pair meet in London at the O2 Arena, where he threatened to ‘fracture Benn’s spleen and then eat it’.
As for Benn, the 28-year-old continues to be linked to a rescheduled encounter against Eubank Jr. and the upcoming February 22nd card in Riyadh could be the perfect place to get one over his long-term rival and announce his comeback to the big time in style.
