UFC President Dana White has confirmed that Conor McGregor has signed a deal to fight Floyd Mayweather. The Irishman has also confirmed the deal.
The fight that many thought was just smoke and mirrors, a desperate add campaign for MMA and boxing, has taken a big step forward towards actuality. Although, White still has work out Mayweather’s part of the deal which might not be as easy.
“The McGregor side is done. I’m starting to work on the Mayweather side now. I’m not saying the fight will happen, but I got one side done. Now it’s time to work on the other. If we can come to a deal with (Al) Haymon and Mayweather, the fight is going to happen,” said White in an interview with TNT.
McGregor has also released a statement on his website regarding the recently signed bout agreement.
“It is an honor to sign this record breaking deal alongside my partners Zuffa LLC (now WME-IMG), The Ultimate Fighting Championship, and Paradigm Sports Management. The first, and most important, part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off on. Congratulations to all parties involved. We now await Al Haymon and his boxer’s signature in the coming days,” said the statement.
Like McGregor says, it’s now all up to Mayweather to make this fight happen.
