Conor McGregor did his best to try to cause an upset but eventually, reality stepped in and Floyd Mayweather outboxed his opponent.
There were brief moments when McGregor did look good against the 40-year old veteran, which gave some fans hope of a possible second McGregor bout against another boxer.
Mayweather’s right hand man Leonard Ellerbe said that he would like to see McGregor box again, but Floyd himself had very different thoughts. Against the younger guys of the game, The Irishman would not make it according to Mayweather.
“Conor McGregor is a hell of a fighter and I want to see him continue to stay in the UFC and do what he do best. Because you must realize, that I’m 40 years old and I’ve been off almost 800 days. And he’s active. He’s actively fighting, actively training.. in a boxing gym and in the UFC gym,” said Floyd according to boxingscene.com.
He went into detail about how he didn’t do as much against McGregor as he could have. The Irishman would suffer even worse beatings at the hands of active professional boxers.
“He’s active, he’s training, he’s competing. These other fighters, these young lions, they are throwing a lot more combinations than I’m throwing. I was just in the pocket, shooting one shot here and there, and breaking him down slowly. Whereas you got these young active guys who are throwing a lot of combinations and would get him out of there a lot earlier,” explained Floyd.

Floyd Mayweather is now a perfect 50-0 as a professional fighter, breaking Rocky Marciano’s record. He has confirmed that he won’t be stepping into the ring anymore. Meanwhile, McGregor’s future in boxing is still a bit uncertain but he’ll most likely return to the UFC for now.
