WBA Regular champion Daniel Dubois has revealed details of his one round sparring session with WBC world champion Tyson Fury.
Dubois explained that he was actually sparring Hughie Fury, Tyson’s cousin and knocked his opponent down, which then encouraged ‘The Gypsy King’ to step into the ring and protect his family name.
In an interview with Seconds Out, Dubois admitted that he was in awe of the six foot seven, undefeated champion.
“It’s a long story isn’t it, I went up to spar his cousin, Hughie. I put him down in sparring and then he [Tyson] jumped in for a round, they all know who I am.”
“He was awkward back then, you know and at the time, I don’t think I was going all out, I was sort of in awe or whatever. It’s all experience isn’t it. I’ve sparred many guys, I’ve put many people over, at that stage I was just starting off, I can’t tell too much from that or take too much from that.”
Dubois is now pursuing a fight with the undefeated champion and he doesn’t believe that the fight would be a personal one, even though he dropped his cousin.
The 25-year-old fights on Fury’s undercard next weekend, taking on South African Kevin Lerena and anticipates a move up the rankings if he is to secure victory.
“He’s doing his thing, I’m getting up there ain’t I. No hard feelings, it’s boxing and if they say they are fighting men, they completely understand. I’m up for it, to win the world title and fulfil my prophesy and my destiny. This bout that I’ve got, if I keep winning, is going to put me right up there in front of them, so they can’t deny me.”
Fury and Dubois are both in action on December 3rd at Tottenham Hotspur stadium, against Derek Chisora and Lerena respectively. The event will be available to purchase on BT Sport Box Office and tickets are still available for those wishing to attend.
