The Mexican Monster is back, and he is hoping to add another title to his already astonishing collection.
The WBC has ordered current WBA and WBO champion David Benavidez (32-0, 26 KOs) to challenge for the WBC cruiserweight championship against current title holder Noel Mikaelian (28-3, 12 KOs).
Benavidez enters the fight on the back of an impressive two-fight knockout streak. Victories have been recorded over respected world title challenger Anthony Yarde and former WBO super-middleweight champion, as well as unified WBA and WBO cruiserweight champion, Gilberto Ramirez.

Before this bout was ordered, Noel Mikaelian was in advanced talks with Jai Opetaia, the Ring Magazine and Zuffa Boxing cruiserweight champion, for a major unification clash later this autumn.

However, a statement released by the WBC confirmed a different direction.
“The WBC Board has voted in favour to order cruiserweight champion Noel Mikaelian to fight mandatorily David Benavidez.”
What comes next?
One fight fans have been clamouring for is a showdown between Jai Opetaia and David Benavidez.
If Benavidez is victorious against Noel Mikaelian, that fight could be made next and in quick succession.
Should that happen, the contest would be for the undisputed cruiserweight championship of the world.
More information on the fight is expected soon.
