The former WBA world heavyweight champion, David Haye caught up with Sky Sports yesterday. The Bermondsey local discussed his ongoing preparation for his highly anticipated May 5th rematch date with Tony Bellew.
Haye also touched on his rehabilitation from suffering an arm injury. That pushed back the originally scheduled December 17th date for the rematch.
“The operation was a flying success. I’ve got a great team, great physiotherapists.”
“I’ve been working every day to make sure it is not as good, but better than before.”
“I’m happy with my progress so far, I’m punching already, I’m doing pull-ups, pushups. Everything that I could do before.”I’m working with my new coach, Ismael Salas, fine-tuning my boxing abilities to make sure when that first bell rings, you’re going to see the best of me;” Haye added.
“People are obviously worried that the body is falling apart, as it has done in the past. But hopefully, that is a thing of the past.”
“You will see a very healthy athlete on May 5th.”
Looking back, Haye evaluated the first fight again and touched on how he intends to change the course in the rematch.
“I can do everything that I need to be doing. What happened last time is not something I did in training, it was a freak accident.
“It is like getting hit by a car, it happens. There is nothing you can do about it, it has nothing to do with technical abilities is not as good as it could be.”
“Fortunately, Tony Bellew really wants this fight, as much as I do so. May 5th, your going to see a great fight.”
“The first fight was an epic battle, anybody who watched it was on the edge of their seat from start to finish.”
“I believe both Tony Bellew and myself will bring 100% like last time and the fans will have a fantastic showdown;” Haye concluded.
