The British Boxing Board of Control has fined boxer David Haye. In the lead-up to the fight, ‘The Hayemaker’ was saying some nasty things about The Liverpudlian. Haye promised to ‘hospitalise’ Bellew and cause serious brain damage. Haye even urged Bellew’s family to not watch the fight
“I’m the last person on the planet you want to fight. I punch that hard. The only thing that is going to happen is serious damage to his head. He has put himself in a very dangerous position. I hope if he does care for his family like he says he does, he does not invite them to the fight. He needs to make sure they do not watch it on TV at home. It would be pretty sad for his family to witness first-hand live what I’m going to do to their dad or husband,” said Haye according to The Telegraph.
The Board of Control have released the following statement regarding Haye:
“BOXER DAVID HAYE
The Stewards of the British Boxing Board of Control considered the behaviour and comments made by Boxer David Haye for his contest with Tony Bellew on the 4th March 2017 at the O2 Arena, London at their Board meeting on Wednesday, 14th June 2017.
Mr. Haye admitted that his behaviour amounted to misconduct and brought Boxing into disrepute.
The Stewards fined Mr. Haye the sum of £25,000.00p.”
There have been serious talks about Haye possibly facing Bellew again this December. According to promoter Eddie Hearn, the fight will most likely happen.
