This past weekend David Haye saw this protege Joe Joyce dismantle Rudolf Josic in the opening round at York Hall.
The next step for Joyce is to get a fight going against Dereck Chisora. Haye revealed through a video on his social media that he and Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn have met and put together a financial package for Chisora.
“The plan is to make the fight happen on the undercard of Bellew-Haye 2 on May 5th at the O2 in London. All Chisora needs to do is sign the contract.
“Chisora said a couple of weeks back if the money was right he would fight. I hope he’s a man of his word because myself and Eddie Hearn have put a financial package together that equals what Dereck Chisora received for a challenge for the European title on foreign soil against an unbeaten 14-0 fighter,” told Haye.
He then added:
“We’ve got the same money for him to do it on May 5th. Dereck, don’t’ be scared, sign the contract,” said Haye.
Joe Joyce 2-0 (2 ko's) v Dereck Chisora 27-8 (19 ko's) is pretty much sorted to be on the #hayebellew2 undercard on May 5.
This fight will be a barnstormer from the first bell. The British heavyweight scene is as healthy as I can ever remember… Let's get it on!! #joycevchisorapic.twitter.com/OOlxaHKftr— David Haye (@davidhaye) February 17, 2018
In his previous fight, Chisora fought against Agit Kabayel in Monte Carlo for the European heavyweight title and lost a majority decision. It was Chisora’s eighth career loss.
After his win over Josic, ‘The Juggernaut’ had strong words for Chisora, saying that he ‘needs to be a man and take the fight’, among other things.
“It will be an entertaining and exciting fight. I’d really enjoy facing Chisora. Hopefully, he takes the fight. Hopefully, he is man enough and not a chicken.
When asked about why Chisora might pass up on the opportunity despite the money, Joyce had this to say:
“Maybe because his teammate, Ian Lewison, he has seen what happened to him [Joyce’s first pro win] and he doesn’t wanna go through the same thing. Maybe he’s a bit scared, maybe he’s doing it just for the money. I think he needs to be a man and take the fight. ”
