Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis will face the trash-talking Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero in a battle of Floyd Mayweather promoted fighters at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on December 5.
The bout will take place at 135lbs where Davis (25-0, 24 KOs) currently holds the WBA Regular belt despite the popular Baltimore banger winning the same strap at 140lbs against Mario Barrios in June, according to Mike Coppinger of ESPN.com.
“These two guys, they despise each other,” Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe told Coppinger. “Ten years from now these guys will still hate each other.
“It’s a terrific fight, this will be like a modern day Hagler-Hearns fight from the opening bell. Tank’s the most exciting fighter in the entire sport and Rolly is a very exciting knockout puncher himself. This fight will definitely end in a knockout.”
True to form, Las Vegas’ Romero (14-0, 12 KOs) predicted a KO victory via his Instagram account.
“Rolly putting this kid to sleep on Dec. 5,” wrote Romero. “Bet the house on Rolly.”
