Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall are set to renew their rivalries in the ring soon but ahead of their rematch broadcaster DAZN has issued a statement following a comment made by ‘The Tartan Tornado.’
More than two years after their highly controversial first fight, Taylor and Catterall will meet on April 27th in Leeds to settle the score once and for all.
It was back in 2022 that Taylor secured a much-debated points win over Catterall in Glasgow to defend and retain all four of his undisputed super-lightweight titles.
Many onlookers disagreed with the result and ever since then the two have thrown insults back and forth while Taylor has since revealed the mistake he made in that first fight.
In a press conference to announce the fight, tensions boiled over once more as 33-year-old Taylor was grabbed by the throat by Catterall, 30, which prompted Taylor to call his opponent a “f***ing r*****” and was heard doing so by a nearby microphone.
Sports streaming platform DAZN will air the fight and also streamed Tuesday’s press conference when the insult was heard and has responded in a statement to The Independent.
“DAZN does not condone the use of discriminatory language, and will remind Josh Taylor of his responsibilities.”
Since that first fight between the two, ‘The Tartan Tornado’ had to give up three of the world titles in order to take the fight he wanted, then lost his remaining WBO belt on points to American Teofimo Lopez in New York City.
That was the first loss of his career and he has not fought since, so this rematch with Catterall has even more significance for both men should they want to get back to world honours.
