Sources told Boxing Social’s Matt Brown of Brunch Boxing that Chris Eubank Jr. is linked with a comeback bout in Australia.
At 36 years old, it’s unclear how many fights Eubank has left after exchanging a win and a loss with generational rival Conor Benn, last year.
Unlike Benn, though, Eubank is scandal-free and an ambassadorial figure for his home country, having engaged in memorable domestic clashes with Billy Joe Saunders, George Groves, James DeGale, Liam Smith (twice), and Benn.
But, per Brunch Boxing, Eubank will return to the ring in September — one year since his loss — against Michael Zerafa; a 34-year-old nicknamed One Eyed Willy, who was last seen in a ring against Nikita Tszyu, brother of Tim, in a No Contest after Zerafa repeatedly reported to the doctor he could not see following an accidental head clash.
The fight, therefore, would represent a comeback, of sorts, for both fighters.
As Brown wrote in his report for Boxing Social, the fight would air as a pay-per-view in September.
Elsewhere on that card could be a spot for modern-day legend, Nonito Donaire, who wants to fight Jason Moloney on the undercard.
Chris Eubank Jr. Isn’t The Only Fighter Traveling to Australia
Considering Australia’s thriving status as a combat sports hotbed, it is no surprise to see Eubank linked with a fight in that country but he’s not the only foreign fighter traveling to the land down under.
At a press conference Saturday in Las Vegas, while the fight media is in town for the unified cruiserweight world title fight between defending champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez and challenger David Benavidez, Premier Boxing Champions star Errol Spence Jr. will announce his return to the ring for the first time since his crushing 2023 defeat to career-long rival Terence Crawford.
Opposite him on July 25 at a fight Prime Video airs from Australia, will be Tim Tszyu, who has suffered his own heavy losses to Bakhram Murtazaliev and Sebastian Fundora, but has, unlike Spence, rebounded with wins over Anthony Velazquez and Denis Nurja.
The fight, Boxing Social understands, will take place at super welterweight with both fighters gunning for a world title contention at 154 pounds.
