Things go from bad to worse in Oscar De La Hoya’s promotional partnership of Ryan Garcia.
Following Garcia’s first career loss – a TKO at the hands of still-undefeated Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis – De La Hoya was a no-show at the post-fight press conference.
This rubbed fans up the wrong way, and Garcia too. Despite claims that he had been advised by security to leave the building following death threats during fight week, Garcia still felt that promoter had let him down.
That came to a head on Twitter, when De La Hoya bizarrely asked if arguably the biggest star in his stable was ‘still crying.’
“What the f**k Ryan. It’s been almost two months and you’re still crying about the post-presser? The blame for your loss is on you and your ‘adviser’ Lupe.
He is the only one who pushed you to accept that insane rehydration clause and that is the reason you lost. Man up. Own that.”

He said that claims of ‘Tank’s team taking care of his post fight were silly considering they ‘set him up to lose.’
Garcia responded saying he was tired of De La Hoya’s treatment – the tough love clearly not working – and called him out for recently rubbing shoulders with a potential opponent in Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero.
“Okay, buddy. You got it all figured out. I’m tired of you disrespecting my whole career, and you think none of it matters. Loyalty and common sense are lost in your head. Stop treating people that way and think they will just accept it.”
“You know I’m about to fight this guy [Romero]. And you go act buddy-buddy with him. You don’t care about your fighters. I’m really tired of this fake act! Stop the cap. Be real for once man. I can respect you more if you just told me the truth – you’re in it for the cash. No love lost.”
De La Hoya’s answer was ‘it’s called promoting’ – something he perhaps won’t be doing for Garcia for much longer.
‘King Ryan’ then pointed out his promoter’s idea of a Manny Pacquiao fight, something he has ruled out. De La Hoya ironically replied that he ‘was not going to argue over social media.’ Too late.
not going to argue over social media. When you have time to sit down, man to man we can get you another huge payday.

Having split with his trainer for the Davis fight, Joe Goossen, many fans believe Garcia will go for the full overhaul before returning to the ring.
