Tommy Fury has registered his first professional victory against Latvian Jevgenjis Andrejevs, courtesy of a scorecard of 40-36 after four rounds of action.
It was a scrappy yet thoroughly comfortable affair for the teenager, who stalked his opponent throughout the fight but failed to kickstart his career in the explosive fashion he presumably would have desired.
After landing consistently with left jabs in the first two rounds, the 19 year-old – Tyson Fury’s younger brother – elected increase the intensity in the third, after being prompted to do so by trainer Ricky Hatton.
However, his efforts to produce a stoppage by stringing together a series of spiteful punches were continually frustrated by the excessive holding and spoiling tactics of his opponent.
Fury attempted to open up his cagey opponent by going to the body, but was sternly reprimanded by referee Howard Foster for repeatedly hitting below the belt, before the final bell rang to signal Fury’s first career win.
